Polaroid’s Action Camera made its debut in Whistler at the 3rd annual Whistler Longboard Festival which took place July 5-7. As a sponsor of the Big Air Competition, Freestyle Showcase and the World Cup Downhill Race, Polaroid Action amped up the festival with prize giveaways and no shortage of entertainment.
The Polaroid Big Air heated up Olympic Plaza on Friday afternoon showcasing top riders from around the world throwing tricks off a custom-built kicker into a giant Acro Bag. Polaroid was on site with t-shirt and camera giveaways getting the crowd pumped up and kicking off the festival in true action-sports fashion.
On Saturday the Polaroid Freestyle Showcase went down in the center of Whistler Village and featured skate legend Kevin Harris along with Canada’s top freestyle skateboarders Ryan Brynelson and Andy Anderson.
Pulling double duty, Polaroid also played host to their team of riders up at the World Cup Downhill venue that same day. Along with offering a cool place to sit down and chill out, they also gave away a generous supply of cameras to fans and supporters at the race. On point with the needs of athletes and filmmakers alike, their sponsorship at this year’s festival was the perfect match, giving them inordinate exposure, branding opportunities and recognition for the Polaroid Action Cam.

Interested in Sponsorship training? Bluebird Strategy is pleased to share some exciting details of a Sponsorship Seminar that is coming ot the Vancouver area. The event is a full day workshope on Wednesday, June 22nd entitled
"Inventory Development and Valuation - What Do You Have To Sell To Sponsors + What Is It Really Worth?"
The workshop is presented by The Partnership Group Sponsorship Specialists, Tourism Vancouver and Langara College and will take place at Langara.
The day will focus on assisting you to determine what you may have within your organization to actually sell that is worth real value to a sponsor or prospect. It will look beyond the traditional "hanging of a banner" or "logo inclusion" inventory benefits into what companies are seeking from you in a sponsorship package of assets and benefits. It will provide you with the tools, systems and real life experience and scenarios to seek out within your organization new and unique items that you may have to sell and "build an inventory of benefits" that sponsors want to buy.
The day will then continue by teaching you to actually determine and place "real market value" for each and every one of your inventory benefits and assets, be they tangible or intangible. This part of the day will utilize industry accepted standards and formulas for calculating value to ensure you walk away with the necessary tools to value your own property assets.
This full day session will be a hands-on interactive workshop that will engage delegates both during lecture and in break-out groups to build and value inventory. This is a must attend workshop for any organization seeking to generate more revenue.

As the sponsorship lead for this year’s inaugural Eco Fashion Week presented by AVEDA, I have been tasked with the challenge of building a sustainable sponsorship strategy with a sales focus exclusively on organizations that are committed to improving their environmentally efficiency. Through this process, I have recognized some key strategies to share with you about sustainability, sponsorship and event execution. First priority is to ensure the sponsors you are approaching have a sustainability mission or are working towards one – often found on the partners websites. Sponsorship is a much a partnership, and if your two organizations don't share like minded goals, there is no point pursuing the relationship:
AVEDA: When it comes to environmentally responsible make up, hair and body products, AVEDA has been paving the way since 1978. AVEDA`s best practices include pure flower and plant ingredients in their products, responsible packaging that rewards consumers to recycle, campaign to end animal testing in the industry and an impressive environmental sustainability policy. For more information: http://www.aveda.com/aboutaveda/esp.tmpl
SIGG: Metro Vancouver’s tap water is arguably some of the best drinking water in the world, and it costs you only about $0.0008 per litre. A single-use one litre bottle of water can cost you as much as $1.75 a litre and will take hundreds of years to decompose. EFW has partnered with SIGG Bottles to provide its guests with free water at the event...don`t forget your Sigg Bottle! For more information: http://www.sigg.com/siggnificance/simply-eco-logical/
Painted Turtle Wine: Painted Turtle comes in a 100% Recyclable Wine bottle as well as a portion from the proceeds from every bottle is donated to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund. For more information: http://www.paintedturtlewine.com/greenInitiatives/index.html
Schramm Vodka: Using locally grown Pemberton potatoes, Pemberton Distillery produces small batches of organic single malt whisky using organic malted barley from the Okanagan Valley and pure Coast Mountain water. For more information: http://pembertondistillery.ca/

You didn’t think the party would stop in Whistler after March, did you? This past weekend, the 15th Annual TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival kicked off in Whistler Village. 10 days of media showcases, outdoor concerts, film premieres, free samples, ski bunnies, neon and of course, legendary parties that you may not remember or not soon forget.
The coolest part about this festival is that is probably one of the most artistic action sports festivals out there. In the middle of Village Square, Jordan Soak spray paints the hood of a Chevy Camaro, with the sweet sounds of indie band City of Glass in the background. Later on, I found myself in the depths of Maxx Fish on a wonderfully sunny early evening to witness in the first Pecha Kucha night in Whistler. I know, what the? Meaning “chit chat” in Japanese, the event originated in Tokyo as a way for young designers and artists to network and share their work with each other. The format is set up so that each presenter shows 20 photos and has 20 seconds to share thoughts and dialogue about each. Considering there was a Periodontist, a Zoologist and a former Sex Experimentalist, it was definitely entertaining to say the least.
And it wouldn’t be a true Whistler event if there wasn’t a teaser for the next season’s extreme sport, enter Anthill Films (formerly the Collective). I was invited to attend the premiere of their new film “Follow Me”. Amazing cinematography and some of the most talented (and good looking) mountain bikers in the biz, all in a recipe for a great flick!
If you didn’t get up to Whistler this past weekend, don’t worry, there are 6 days left of the Festival including the not to be missed the Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown (sorry folks its already sold out), the street wise Fashion Show and you can check out the local Whistler celebrity’s in the Chairlift Revue on Sunday night.
